Anaphylaxis Sets In

Tuesday night I came home from work and had some pita bread and hummus just like any other night this week. I also had a Fruit2O® raspberry flavored water. i'd been drinking the other flavors all week as well, but for some reason, everything was different tonight. About 20 minutes after I'd finished my 16 oz bottle of water I started to itch. At first I thought it was just my tag in my shirt irritating me. Then I was itching on my legs and stomach. I noticed my belly looked red and blotchy. My immediate thought was poison ivy; but it's too early for poison ivy! Then I thought maybe the dog got into something and brushed it on me; but again, I couldn't think of what.
I decided to take a shower. At this point I realized I looked sunburnt! I was all red and blotchy from my neck to my ankles. Fortunately, my face was not affected. Hubby said it looked like I was reacting to something I'd eaten and blamed the hummus. It didn't make sense I've been eating this brand of hummus since January without incident. I decided to blame the water. It was the only thing I had eaten that day that I'd never had before.
I went to bed hoping it would just go away. Unfortunately, it got worse. I decided to take the day off and go see a doctor. I wasn't able to see my own doctor, but one of the others at the clinic was available. She took one look at me and said, "this is something you ate!" Great. She gave me a shot of cortisone and prescribed Medrol and Benedryl. Hubby decided I should hold off on the prescriptions and let the cortisone take care of it. Wrong again! We both fell asleep on the couch for about 2 hours. When I woke up I was itching like mad and the rash was on my face! Hubby took a hint and got my prescriptions! I could feel the burning in my ears and my eyes were becoming irritated. This was just what I needed!
Hubby got my prescriptions and I immediately took the Benedryl. The Medrol was designed to be taken at certain times of day so I decided to start that pack the next day. The Benedryl was a huge help, but it knocked me out. There was no way I'd be able to work the next day if I had to be on Benedryl plus try a new medication on top of it. I wound up missing Thursday, too.
Today I felt seminormal. I had my follow up and then went to work. I felt kind of hazy all day from the medication and everything else, but I survived. I managed to get some Mary Kay orders filled and I placed an order of my own. I also managed to walk one of my team members through her first order. I now have 2 active team members! Go me! I'm just one team member away from my Red Jacket. That's what we call "middle management" in the world of Mary Kay. Exciting stuff!
