Artwork Anniversary

Today marks 6 years to the day since I went out and got tattooed. When I was 19 years old I had my first real boyfriend. He was a couple years older than me. We were always together. He decided to get a tattoo and I went with him to watch. I was in complete awe of the whole process and I knew right then and there, I had to have a tattoo! However, it couldn't be just any old tattoo just for the sake of having a tattoo. It had to mean something. At that time, I was at a loss. I didn't want to get something that I would regret later so I held off. It was always in the back of my mind. I decided I wanted one when I was 25. It turned out I was 25 and still didn't have one. So, I wanted to get it done before my 26th birthday.
I started looking at the tattoo parlors for ideas. I knew I wanted a dragon. I had decided this when I was 24. I was going to get one in 2000 because it was the Year of the Dragon and I was born in the Year of the Dragon. The year 2000 came and went. So, finally, in 2002, I got my tattoo! I saw some ideas I liked, but wanted it a little customized. So, my dragon is coiled in the shape of an infinity symbol. I love symbolism!
Now I am considering a second tattoo. It will also be on my back, but more visible. My first tattoo is on my low back. I was still dancing when I got it. I wanted it in a location that would not be visible in my dance classes or on stage. It is perfectly placed so that a leotard hides it well. Since I don't dance anymore and I don't care who sees it, I want my next one between my shoulder blades. I'm nervous about that because it's an area that will hurt like hell! One of these days, I'll get brave.
In case you're wondering, the first one didn't hurt at all. I fully expected excruciating pain to ensue as soon as the needles punched into my skin, but to my surprise, it felt kind of good. I imagine acupuncture might feel the same way. The place I expected it to hurt the most, my spine, felt nothing at all. I felt a little discomfort on the muscle on either side of my spine, but not when it went over the bone. It tickled by my sides. Isn't that fascinating? Hee hee...
Have I picked a design for my next piece of body art? Yes, I have. You see it every day on this blog. ;)

Great Story! If you are going to use your icon-that's gonna take a while-lol! Good Luck to you! I used to think I would get one a long time ago-it was gonna be Mickey Mouse. Then I thought later I would never do that. Recently I have been contemplating having something done-in Patch's honor. I might have to brainstorm on that more.

Thanks! Yes, it will probably take a couple hours. The one I have took about an hour and a half. The new one won't be quite as large, so maybe it will be the same amount of time. I'm going to get it in black. No color for the new one. Now I just have to get the nerve! lol
