Last April Hubby built a fabulous deck on the back of our house. It's bare, however. My parents gave us a couple of plastic patio chairs so that we could sit outside on our deck. We still didn't do much out there, however, because we felt a lack of privacy. Our lot is an acre, but it's deep, not wide. The houses are relatively close together so privacy is an issue. We didn't spend a lot of time out on our deck last year which is kind of tragic since it's so nice.
This summer is going to be so much different! Hubby built a good size shed on one side of the yard. He placed it perfectly--it blocks the view to and from BIL's yard. We don't have to feel on display to BIL and his goonie friends. Hubby has also started a "wall" of arbor vitae shrubs. This also creates some privacy. On the other side of the yard, he has set to work building a large fence. Finally, we'll have privacy on both sides of the house and we can enjoy our back yard without distraction. We also believe these things will eventually help to sell the house. The main trouble is the neighbors don't take care of their property. BIL is kind of a headcase and the other house is a rental. The grass on both lawns is getting close to knee-high. We're creating a back yard that draws the eye to the yard and not the riff raff on either side. I think it will pull the eye nicely!
Last night Hubby and I went to my parents' house to look at the old patio table and chairs they used to have out in their back yard. They are trying to eliminate a lot of their clutter and asked if we'd be interested in the old table and chairs. Hubby wanted ot get a look at it to see if it is in OK shape. We decided to go check it out before it got too dark to see it. After Hubby's inspection, he deemed it worthy of our deck! We even took the chairs. The chairs need cleaned. They have vinyl cushins that need cleaned bad. One chair had a wasps nest embedded in the cushin. We got that out, but Hubby is going to bleach them out and clean them with disinfectant. They're in pretty good shape except for the wasp nest and some sap.
When we set the table out on the deck it made me realize how large our deck really is! I thought the table would fill the deck a little, but the deck still looks big even with the table there. Maybe with the chairs added it will look more balanced. Even so, it is promising that we can add lounge chairs in the near future! Perhaps I'll be able to get a suntan in my own back yard for a change. That would be nice!

Yummmm sun tanning! Heavenly.
You could always put a porch swing on the deck.
We live by the water and get fishflies in the summer. They are everywhere. I hate them, they smell and are so gross. As long as we live in this area, I will spend my summer nights indoors or at least 5 miles from the lake. ; )
Oh, and strawberries get a lot of diseases so be careful. ; )
Actually, Hubby wants to possibly put a swing on the nearby tree. He has the branch all picked out. He said he might build a tree swing (or buy one?). :)
I think strawberries get diseases if they are not properly cared for and it also depends on where they are grown. I'm more nervous about buying them in a grocery store than growing them in my yard. ;)
We get mosquitoes and Canadian soldiers (midges, if you will or lake flies as some call them). Those things are annoying. We will be investing in citronella candles soon. We have a pond not far from our property and the ditch at the end of the property gets standing water when it rains.
