Welcome to this week's edition of Fight the Frump Friday hosted by Fussypants! Today I'm going to talk about looking glamorous without a lot of effort. This week Mary Kay launched the next phase of its mineral makeup promotion. This installment includes mineral eye and cheek colors as well as mineral pressed powders, mineral highlighting powders, and mineral bronzers. I'm normally not all that stoked about makeup--I could take it or leave it. I'm all about the MK Skin Care and glamor is secondary. I think it is from all those years of caking on (non-MK) stage makeup. Makeup just makes me feel too stagy. To my pleasant surprise, when I decided to try out this new makeup, I just fell in love! Makeup that does't feel like makeup is good GREAT makeup in my book!
First, I love the MK Mineral Powder Foundation because it goes on easily and I can do it in a rush. It's very even the first time and I only need to apply one or two layers to get the coverage I need.
Once I have my Mineral Powder Foundation on, I even out my look with a few swipes of the Mineral Pressed Powder. I use the brush. I prefer the brush to a sponge. I think I use less of the product this way and I think it goes on lighter and looks more natural. When I'm feeling like a minimalist, I can go out of the house comfortable wearing only these two products. They make my face look nice and clean and smooth. The powders don't wipe off easily onto clothing and they tend to last throughout the day. Very little touch-up is needed.
When I want to feel more glamorous, I go ahead with color. I love the new Mineral Eye Colors and the new Mineral Highlighting Powder. I actually prefer the highlighting powder to blush right now. I haven't tried the cheek colors (blush) yet. I may give it a try this weekend, but the shimmery highlighting powder in Pink Stardust gives me just a touch of color in my cheeks. It's just enough to make me look alive without making me look "made up."
Today on my eyes, I'm wearing Sienna as a highlighter, Chocolate Kiss as a midtone, and Granite as the accent. I may get a little bolder this weekend and wear Ganite as the midtone and Navy Blue as the accent. I was wearing Navy Blue instead of Granite earlier this week.
What I love about these new eye colors is that they are very versatile. Right now, we only have a limited selection available and at first I was worried there simply weren't enough options. What I've found is that the options are overwhelming because these colors are so versatile they can be mixed and matched and go well on different skin tones. You can read more about this line of mineral makeup here and here.
I love experimenting with colors. Trying something new that is so quick and easy to apply is definitely a great way to Fight that Frump!

I LOVE minerals. I just started using them about 18 mos ago - but I am addicted!
Great post!!!
Ok, thats it, I have got to call my MK consultant.
LOL! Valarie--you will be so glad you did! ;)
Darla--I think I'm addicted, too! I actually WANT to put makeup on again. For awhile I just wasn't in the mood. It's like having a new toy to play with. :P
I love my mineral makeup. It's good to see that MK is getting in on it. I quit using MK to use Bare Minerals. I like the personal MK touch so much better. :-)
Great post!
Hi Christine! Glad you stopped by! If you have tried both Bare Escentuals and Mary Kay, I would love feedback on that. I've never used mineral makeup until MK had it. Never had a reason to, but I really do like it!
Glad you all like the post. :)
P.S. I changed my screen name (again)
I like the minerals as well!
Great tip.
i love mineral makeup. I've been tempted by the brand that has the infomercials... do you know how this compares, cost-wise?
Blessings,
Karla
Karla, I think the prices on the powders are comparable, however, the other brand charges much more for their brushes.
I can give you the cost of MK's Mineral Powder: $28 for the brush and powder. Powder refills are $18.
On the other brand it looks like the powders range from $18-$20 and the brushes start at $28.
I just started with mineral makeup a few weeks ago and love it. It is good to know that MK carries it now. Thanks!
Hey, do you have samples of the mineral makeup? I would like to try the eye shadow. I need to *fix* myself up some more. I need to do something with my hair first!
I do have samples. ;)
I need to git me some mineral makeup... next time I buy - that is what I am going for... Thanks!
