It took me about an hour and a half to get home from work last night. I skipped aerobics in anticipation of the ice storm and its effects on the roads. In retrospect, I'm so glad I made that decision. I really hated to miss class again. I have barely gone at all. My energy has been great lately and I'd love to see how I do in class. Tomorrow night I guess I will find out. ;)
I got home and the icy sleet was awful. It was loud as it pinged against the windows and roof. The wind was gusty and it was just plain rotten outside. It started around 4:00 p.m. and wasn't expected to let up until 4:00 a.m! Hubby saw that schools were already being closed for the next day. He said I should probably just stay home from work. My institution rarely closes. The last time it closed for weather was last Valentine's Day (2007) when we were hit with the blizzard. Any other time, I just have to use my discretion. I'm convinced the the prez of our institution has total disregard for the lives and safety of his staff.
Around 11:30 I went to bed. I had a little flexibility because I go in a little later on Wednesdays. This morning Hubby and I woke up and looked outside. It was snow and ice for as far as the eye could see and the snow was still coming down! This was at 6:30 a.m. Hubby told me to check and see if work was even open today. I checked the website and sure enough, nothing was canceled and offices were open. Hubby went to check the news on TV just in case it was listed there. Nope. Work was open--in spite of over 400 school closings in the area. This is typical. Hubby looked outside again. He said, "forget it. You're not going anywhere. Just call in and maybe go in a half day or something." Woo hoo! :) I called and left a message that I would try to come in this afternoon once roads had been plowed. I had breakfast and wasn't really tired anymore so I stayed up and watched the news...which was depressing because it was all about Hillary Clinton winning Ohio. Barf.
I saw the plows come around 9:30 or so. I was watching The Golden Girls on Lifetime. This is my favorite thing about days I'm not at work. I can see The Golden Girls! Around 10:00 I decided to take a shower and start getting ready to go to work. I ate lunch and decided to leave around 12:30. I went out and started my car. Hubby was kind enough to warm it up earlier and scrape all the ice off. I put the car in reverse and went absolutely nowhere. I was stuck. I turned the car off and walked to the garage where Hubby was. I said I was stuck. He said he told me I wouldn't get anywhere! He tried, too. He was able to get my car to the end of the driveway, but just couldn't get it into the street. I could smell the rubber of the tires. He pulled the car back up near the garage and said he could keep trying. I told him just to forget it and I would call work back and tell them I'm snowed in.
So, I called work and they actually weren't expecting me anyway. It's no problem, I'm covered and I'm FREE for the day! Woo hoo! Snow days rock! But don't get me wrong--I'm totally ready for spring! This snow and ice stuff is just getting old now. Bring me some 70ยบ weather!

Yahoo for snow days!
My in-laws are just north of Dayton and they lost power last night around 5 pm. That sucks.
No power would suck. Fortunately, we just had ice and snow. :) Just enough to get my car stuck.
